A real method to earn online -
but it requires hard work and patience

How to Get Less Poor Slowly

It is quite possible to make money on the Internet. However, it will take work and patience. There are several methods, which can be combined: advertising on a web site and sales of ebooks and other software on the internet. These methods do have a big advantage: Once the work is done the online business will continue to produce income with very little work. This makes the business attractive to people who still have regular jobs that keep them busy.

Step 1: Find a subject of interest

The first step is to find a subject of interest. Your passion. It may be a hobby, your profession, or some subject you have expertise or experience in. You don’t need to be the world’s greatest expert. You only need to have experience, know more than people who are new to the field, and be able to do research to learn more.

For example, you may have spent years servicing and maintaining diesel engines. There are many people who are experts at diesel engine maintenance, but there are always new people entering the field who need to learn. You may also know more about baking, gardening, or certain home repair topics. If you can build a web site and write a book, you can make money teaching new comers to the field. You won't likely get rich. You could be the next Martha Steward, but that is unlikely. What is likely is that after a few years you will be  receiving income that will supplement your "day job".

Step 2: Build a web site

The second step: build a web site. The site should not be fancy with Flash, animated graphics, and other distractions. It can be plain, primarily text with only graphics (drawings or photographs) that are needed to support the text. The primary purpose of the site will be to provide information to others, particularly to less experienced people. You should have a reliable host service. It can be the same ISP that provides your internet service (assuming you have your own home internet account) or you can use other services such as Yahoo. You should avoid the free services that provide web pages containing advertising.

Your web site will do you no good unless you have visitors. This involves being listed on search engines (Particularly Google and Yahoo). There is much information on the web about how to get listed on search engines. However, the best information can come from the search engines themselves. A number of sites sell search engine submission services where you pay to be listed. Some may actually improve your position in the list of results from a search, but the improvement is not likely to be worth the investment.

Step 3: Add advertising to your site

The next step is to add advertising on the site. There are two simple ways to “monetize”, or make money from a site: affiliate programs and Google’s Adsense.

In general, the affiliate programs will provide you with html code to insert on your web page. When displayed the affiliate ad (usually a graphic) and link will appear. If your reader clicks on the ad he will be taken to the affiliate site and may make a purchase. Most affiliates pay a commission on the purchase; some will pay a smaller amount if the visitor fills in a form to receive information (pay per lead). Some of the common affiliates are Barnes and Noble books and Amazon.com books. There are also affiliate services such as Commission Junction and Be-Free that will allow you to join the network and then easily sign up with individual merchants through the network.

I have not found any affiliate programs that provide any significant income for smaller or niche sites. That is not to say there are none out there; I am still looking.

Adsense, from the search engine Google, displays text ads on your site. These are the Adwords ads that appear in boxes on the right hand side of the page on Google searches, and, like the ads on Google searches, are based on your content. (These are known as “contextual” ads. Google’s computers analyze the text on your site to determine the keywords related to the site and then match advertising to those key words. The ads that appear are from Google's Adwords customers who buy ads by bidding on certain keywords. The ads will appear next to the search results using those keywords on the Google search engine and on Adsense pages whose content matches the keywords.

Step 4: Write an e-book to sell on your site

Step Four: write an e-book. This should be a book of 10 to 100 pages, preferably in Adobe .pdf format that the customer can purchase for a small amount. ($5 to $20). The book should be on the subject of the web site but provide more details than what you give away in the content on the site. The book can be downloaded from your web site using a service such as Clickbank to handle credit card payments. You will not have to handle the shipments or do any work at the time of the purchase. Once you set everything up your only work will be carrying the Clickbank checks to the bank. And if that is too much (for example, if you usually out of town) there are other payment methods that involve direct deposit.
